Memphis food is more than barbecue. If our local festival scene is a good barmoeter, we're also really good at crawfish, hot wings, ice cream, soup and now, burgers. Assignment #260 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to check out the brand new Best Memphis Burger Fest.
Festival founder Seth Agranov is exactly the guy you'd want planning an all-burger festival – he's the founder of the Best Memphis Burger blog, which is his single-man, single-minded quest to find the best burger in town.
On Sunday, Sept. 30, teams of amateur and restaurant grillmasters are competing for burger glory at Minglewood Hall. The teams will be judged by a team of qualified professionals (including me) to determine who has the best burger, best veggie burger, best "anything but burger" burger, and best extreme burger.
The cooking teams aren't allowed to sell burgers to the general public, but they are allowed to give away samples. Teams will probably be more likely to served up a sample if you throw a little cash toward the festival's official charity, Mid-South Spay and Neuter Services.
In addition to the cooking competition, Best Memphis Burger Fest will have a team Kookamonga Eating Challenge, food and drink available for purchase, vendors, animal adoptions and live music.
