5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 6/17 - 6/19

Happy Father's Day weekend, Memphis. Here, as always, are my top five things to do this weekend. Bonus points if you take your dad with you:

1. Back Nine Opening, Mirimichi Golf Course, Friday, $36

If your dad is the golfing kind, take him to play the back nine at Justin Timberlake's Millington golf course this weekend. The environmentally-friendly course was closed for a while due to flooding, but it's re-open now. The course is public, and nine holes is a very affordable $36 per person.

2. Beauty and the Beast, Orpheum Theatre, Friday - Sunday, 8 p.m. and 2 p.m., $35 - $95

The Broadway musical version of the Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast" is at the Orpheum through Sunday evening. For those of you who never went through a princess phase, the play tells the story of Belle, a comely village girl who gets trapped by - and falls in love with - a man whose bad attitude has caused him to get turned into a beast.

3. Memphis Grizzlies Open House, FedExForum, Saturday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., free

They won your hearts in the playoffs, and now you can meet the Grizzlies on Saturday at their open house. Test drive seats around the arena, get special deals on season tickets for next year and get a little basketball fix to hold you until November. Parking is free in the Toyota parking garage.

4. Memphis Roller Derby School's Out Double Header, Pipkin Building (at Tiger Lane), Saturday, 6 p.m., $10

Bring your dad to the Pipkin Building this weekend to watch the awesome, athletic ladies of Memphis Roller Derby in a double header. The Memphis Hustlin' Rollers all-star team will play Jacksonville, Fla., and two local teams - the Angels of Death and the Women of Mass Destruction - will play a regular season game. There's beer, barbecue and plenty of family-friendly fun.

5. The Bo-Keys CD Release Party, Levitt Shell, Saturday, 7 p.m., free

Memphis' most notable soul band is having a release party for their new record, "Got to Get Back!" at the Levitt Shell on Saturday night. Members of the Bo-Keys were part of the original Stax house band, so you know they're awesome. As always, you can bring a picnic, blanket and lawn chairs to the Shell.

No matter what you do this weekend, have a great time. If you're coming to roller derby, be sure to say hi to me (I'm number 404) and Intern Jerel. If none of these events are your thing, you can always find more on the calendar.
