Sharon's Chocolates and Bread Cafe is the Perfect Combination (Closed)
I don't know the Sharon behind Sharon's Chocolates and Bread Cafe, but I like her. She's managed to combine two of my favorite things into one amazing little restaurant.
Sharon's located in a small, barely-marked inlet in the shopping center at Poplar and Humes. Inside, the atmosphere is pleasant, but fairly nondescript. While there are a few tables and a little bit of decoration, the real centerpiece of the store is the chocolate case.
The case is loaded with huge, bulbous truffles. I ordered a box of six ($17.50 for six, $2.95 for one). All of the boxes are custom packed - I chose key lime, coconut, orange, passion fruit, mocha and milk chocolate.
I highly recommend cutting Sharon's handmade truffles in half to eat them. They're really big - almost 2 inches tall - and incredibly rich. I especially liked the key lime, which was a ball of white chocolate filled with creamy lime filling.
From the bakery case, I got a giant slice of salt and rosemary focaccia bread. In case you need a visual for how ginormous this slice of bread was, here it is, next to my head:
It was perfect - all soft and salty and herbal. There were wire baskets overflowing with baguettes and a bakery case packed with stromboli-like rolls.
Sharon's Chocolates and Bread Cafe is open every day for lunch. They have a full lunch menu. I've heard great things about their pizza, so I'm thinking a return trip is in order.
