Reasons to Love Memphis #44: The Peculiar Charm of Hot 107

Reasons to Love Memphis #44: The Peculiar Charm of Hot 107

Don't tell WEVL,  but lately, the radio in my car has been tuned to my other favorite Memphis station, Hot 107.1.

I can't help it - Memphis' favorite hip hop station makes me happy. Occasionally, it makes me attempt to teach myself how to Dougie at stoplights.

Teach Me How To Dougie church sign, Memphis, Tenn.

The station has a particular charm. They play what seems like the same seven-song rotation every hour or so, occasionally pausing to throw in an old school eighth-grade-dance classic. Hot 107 plays some songs that I'm convinced don't exist anywhere outside of Hot 107.

Plus, they were responsible for the most awesome PSA ever, Sir Vince's "Swine Flu".

Every time I look over in traffic and see someone busting the same moves as I am in the driver's seat, I can't help but feel connected by the fact that we're probably listening to the same song. A song that's playing, most likely, on Hot 107.

I love Hot 107 for many reasons, but their commercials are by far the best part. Mr. Goldman's Jewlers commerical for getting 20 bottom grills when you buy 20 top grills for 99.99 (we are talking mouth grills for those that are confused) always makes me smile. TK, Boogalo, Spydaman, and DJ LL all do great work.

This post made me laugh out loud. I listen to Hot 107 occasionally, but what I most found funny is getting out to dance at stoplights. As a teen we used to do that and oh what a rush! Its got to be an awesome song to make it so I can't help but dance. Go Hot 107!
