For about a week, I’ve been hearing talk about Ferraro’s, a pizzaria that just opened in the Pinch district downtown. The talk has been a mixture of downtowners excited about having a pizza place nearby and “OMG, try the stromboli.”
Alas, I didn’t try the stromboli when I had lunch there yesterday. There was a lunch special calling my name – an 8 inch, two topping pizza and a drink for $9.99.
I ordered my sausage and basil pie at the counter and was surprised when it showed up at my table super quickly and at least 10″ in diameter. The owner, Andrea Ferraro (who’s also a derby girl) said that the dough usually spreads out a little bit when it cooks.
My pizza was excellent. The crust was perfect – it walked the fine line between thin and thick, and was firm enough to support the toppings, but not overly crispy. The toppings were fresh and there were plenty of them.
Ferraro’s has a definite neighborhood-pizza-joint vibe. The staff is friendly and attentive, there are plenty of big tables and a few large TVs. For those of you who don’t want to leave the house, they offer delivery “uptown, downtown and all around”. While they don’t have liquor, Ferraro’s does have a large selection of beers (on tap and in bottles). All of the beer on tap is $3.50 or less per glass.
